2º - Web Task 1 THE EARLY MIDDLE AGES

Deadline is next Tuesday 14 October, and you'll show your presentatios or posters the next Tuesday 21 with Libbie.

ISLAMIC EXPANSION

Introduction
Visigothic Iberia was conquered under the Umayyad Caliphate (661-750), a period of great conquests in the East and West. The Muslim conquerors spread their religion, Islam, in the conquered territories. Many of these are present-day Muslim countries, while Muslim influence lasted for centuries in other countries.

Task
You are going to make a virtual visit to the mosques and other landmarks of three ancient Umayyad cities: Samarkand, Bukhara, and Córdoba.

Which present-day countries are they in?

In pairs or individually: Make a poster or a presentation of the three cities. (you can include information about these cities in the present, and in the Middle Ages, and their evolution, their language, religion, lifestyle, art, ecc.) Use your imagination.

Links

(Click on the gallery and use the search engine to look for the other cities.)
